  1. * For users of the PC Emulator under RISC OS on 1Mbyte machines we are
  2. supplying a new boot sequence which allows you to get approximately 600K for
  3. use within the emulator. The boot sequence supplied on the RISC OS Support
  4. Disc only allows you to get about 450K. The new boot sequence can also be
  5. obtained via SID or by returning your original disc to Acorn Customer
  6. Services.

  8. * This month we have two application notes which cover hardware ports on the
  9. BBC Model B and Master 128. The first is a 1MHz bus note(This can also apply
  10. to the Archimedes 1Mhz bus port supplied on the Acorn I/O Expansion Card).
  11. The second note is for the serial port, this explains how to change the word
  12. format etc., using assembler. Please send an A4 SAE when applying for either
  13. of these application notes.

  15. * When using the Mail Merge part of 1st Word Plus under RISC OS the Window
  16. on screen drops down to the bottom of the screen thus blocking view of the
  17. Printer driver select box and the printer output box. We now have a fix for
  18. this problem which moves the icon bar which is usually at the bottom of the
  19. screen to the top of the screen. The new file is available by returning your
  20. original 1st Word Plus disc back to Acorn Customer Services. The updated
  21. file which is required can also be downloaded from SID.

  23. * There are four printers drivers obtainable from various sources for use
  24. with Acorns RISC OS Desktop environment.

  26. PrinterPS (Postcript printer driver) 
  27. PrinterDM (Covering Dot Matrix printers ie. Epson and Compatibles, NEC
  28.            Pinwriter) 
  29. PrinterIx (Intergrex 132 Colour printer)
  30. PrinterLJ (Driver for Hewlett Packard Laserjet and compatibles)

  32. Any printer which is compatible with any of the above printers will work
  33. fully from the Desktop.

  35. Unfortunately it is not possible for Acorn to support every printer which is
  36. available for use with the Archimedes range of computers. We have covered
  37. the most popular makes in the above list of printer drivers. We would hope
  38. that third parties will write further printer drivers which have the same
  39. look and feel of Acorn's drivers as the need arises.

  41. * Please remember when returning your discs for upgrading please return the
  42. original disc. Please do not put any technical enquiries on the same letter
  43. that requests the upgrade. If you wish to make a technical enquiry at the
  44. same time as returning your discs please enclosed the enquiry on a separate
  45. piece of paper. This will then enable us to deal with your upgrade
  46. immediately and then research the enquiry you have sent.
